2018 in Review

2018 was the best year of my life. No doubting that. When I think of the events of this year I just sit in awe. So much life has been packed into this year it’s hard to believe that it really was just one year.

2018 started on a high. We had just found out that I was pregnant and spent every single day dreaming about who and what our baby would be. In January we went to our first OB appointment and got our first look at that teeny baby. She wiggled and squirmed her little arms and legs. She really looked like a little gummy bear! img_6522

Morning sickness hit hard in February. I was loving my job with the most amazing people. Baby stewart started making her appearance and we reached the second trimester!

13 weeks!

In March we got the results back from all of our blood work and found out that we didn’t have to worry about SMA and that baby Stewart was a baby girl! We were having a daughter đź’• img_7163

It’s funny what you forget about. We found out that i was a carrier for spinal muscular atrophy which meant that if Alex was also a carrier then our baby could have the disorder. While we waited for those results we also were waiting to find out the gender! It was a girl and she was healthy.

I was supposed to keep the gender a secret and tell Alex in a fun gender reveal type way. I last approx. 10 minutes before bursting with the news haha. I tried so hard!

In April Alex finished his 2nd year of medical school and started studying for STEP1. I hit the halfway point in my pregnancy and we went to Nashville for the weekend to celebrate.

20 weeks!

In May we had our baby shower! I had my first Mother’s Day and Alex studied like crazy. All day every day. He took his Exam at the end of the month and we have never felt more relief! I had my last day of work before summer break.

In June Alex had a two week vacation! We spent a little time in Bowling Green and then drove up to spend a week at the cottage in Canada.

In July alex headed back to work to start his 3rd year! He turned 24 and I reach the final weeks in my pregnancy. We had maternity pictures and it was HOT.

Alex’s birthday!

In August our baby girl arrived! We had a very traumatic delivery and had a short stay in the NICU. She was an absolute trooper. We were so relieved to have her with us. img_8392img_8332

The whole month of September is a little bit of a sleep deprived blur. Our sweet girl was nursing around the clock and growing like crazy. The beginning days were hard but man were they sweet. img_8439img_8383-1

October is for pumpkin patches. Even with our one month old!

In November Sloane had her first flight! She and I went to visit family in Florida for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately Alex was working and had to stay home. She was a trooper and we loved the warmer weather.

First flight! This was pre blowout…

December was crazy! I had my 23rd birthday and Alex wrapped up his busiest semester thus far. We went to Florida again (with Alex this time!) and we toured the Everglades in an airboat. We also took Sloane to the beach for the first time. She was a fan. After getting back from Florida we immediately went to Bowling Green to enjoy Christmas with my side of the family. We then left to go to Gatlinburg for a few days. So much traveling! I am thankful that we were able to spend time with everyone as this is almost our last Christmas that we will be able to.

Life is chaos these days but man am I thankful for it. It’s so fun for me to reflect on all the events that brought us to today. In the madness it’s easy to forget some of it. There’s beauty in all of the hard times, all of the busy schedules, the morning sickness, the 24/7 studying, hot and swollen summers, the painful delivery, the late night feedings, Alex’s 80 hour work weeks, and even the fact that life got busy and I didn’t get to finish school this semester.

God’s grace and mercy have gotten us through this difficult but fun year. I am so thankful for Him adjusting our eyes on the bigger picture–his plan. Every trial seems like nothing looking back. How cool is that?

We have packed a lot of life and love and joy into 2018. I cannot wait to see what 2019 holds.
